Battle Cry by Leon Uris
(March 1982)

From the Publisher: Moving, shocking, tense, and glorious, here is a magnificent saga of men at war--Leon Uris's famous novel about life in the jaws of death, in the U.S. Marine Corps. Here are the men from the cities, farms, and whistle-stops. Here are the tough kids and the mama's boys, the liars and the lovers, the goldbricks and the heroes. Here are the men who made up the most courageous fighting force on the face of he earth--in the best novel about them ever written.

Fix Bayonets! by John W. Thomason

Fix Bayonets! (Classics of Naval Literature) by John W. Thomason

The classic tale of Marines in WWI, May 19, 2000 | Reviewer: Jim from Bisbee, Arizona -- I found an old copy of this book years ago, when there was very little to be found on the USMC in WWI, I am glad to hear it is being published again at this time. My interest in that subject stems from the fact that my Grandfather & his twin brother served in the 5th Marines in WWI.

Strong Men Armed by Robert Leckie

Strong Men Armed: The United States Marines Against Japan by Robert Leckie

The Master of American Wars, April 8, 2002 Reviewer: Mark A Grubbs from Benton, KY United States -- Robert Leckie is the best author I have ever seen detailing the wars in U.S. History. This book is another great story detailing the Marines struggle against the Empire of Japan. Because Mr. Leckie was a participant, this offering provides greater detail of the battles than most of his books. He really gives good descriptions of the people and places where the battles were fought and the courage of the Marines and Japanese as they were locked in a life or death struggle. This is an excellent book on the ground war in the Pacific.

The Right Kind of War by John R. McCormick

Excellent book on life with the Marines, WW11, Nov 9, 1998 | Reviewer: A reader from Honolulu, Hi
As a personal friend of Jim Rosevelt, in later life, the book caught my attention. The book is well written. I wish it could have included some of the first hand stories, he spoke of, during some of our family get-togethers. The book portrays the heavy loss of life that occurred during those years to take the pacific islands. I would reread it, and plan to do just that.
